The Farm Retail Shop

Our main retail area is being called by some a mini supermarket, the corner shop or your typical farm shop. The focus of our shop is principally to support local producers and the local economy, we therefore stock local non organic products alongside our organic ranges. We source products where possible as locally as we can to minimise food miles and consequently carbon footprints. Where required, products are sourced from further afield, enabling us to stock the shelves with a wide range of goods from suppliers who share the same commitment to sustainability and quality as we do.
Fresh daily bread is baked on site, along with cakes, pastries, pies, fudge, biscuits and much more.
In our delicatessen we have over 50 cheeses including organic, local and traditional varieties, we have mediterranean olives and anitpasti, olive oil from the Island of Crete and local rapeseed oil. We have a selection of organic salami, our own cooked meats, beef and ham, and our own organic pease pudding and black pudding.
Where possible we source local, seasonal organic fruit and vegetables, our nearest supplier is the Clervaux Trust in Darlington and their produce is extremely seasonal, we use The Organic Pantry who are based down in Tadcaster who source their produce from a number of local growers and from a wider area when required. Additionally we have a another wholesaler who provides a much wider offering when required.
We stock over 80 organic wines and beers, and we are always increasing our range of local beers as we find more local brewers.
We have local dairy products, jams & preserves, oils, herbs & spices and general store cupboard products. We also have a gluten free range.
We have a good range of ethical cleaning products and personal/skin care products. For the caring mother we offer a wide range of organic baby foods, biodegradable nappies and baby care products.
New Products
In the shop we are constantly developing the product ranges, adding new lines as we come across new local suppliers and also as a result of customer requests. Recently we have introduced Nib Nibs from near Ripon, organic loose leaf tea from Steenbergs, local beer from Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company and smoked salts, peppercorns and oils from North Shields.

We are been approached more and more by local artists and crafts people, so gradually our craft section is growing offering unique gift ideas. Recently we have introduced pottery from Muddy Fingers, felt and textile work from Lone Helliwell and iron work from Nigel Hodgson. The Teesdale Artist's Network use Cross Lanes as a gallery to display their work and pieces of artwork are rotated regularly offering all the artists an opportunity to showcase and sell their work.
