SPRING FAIR... SPRING FAIR... SPRING FAIR

Date is set Saturday 25th May, stalls are getting booked with food, drink and craft producers, bouncy castle and bungee confirmed, cafe menu being planned to showcase our creative cuisine, farm shop stocked full of local products. All we need now are lots of people and a lovely sunny day, please spread the word!

The award winning farm shop with 'sheep on the roof'

The Cross Lanes building has done us proud and has just been awarded a 'Special Commendation' in the RICS Awards and won the 'Building of the Year' and 'Best Building Aesthetics' in the RIDBA FAB Awards. These add to other awards we have been awarded which include the Countryside Alliance Highly Commended Start-Up Award at UK & Ireland leve, the 'Environmental Farm Retailer of the Year' in the FARMA awards, the 'Outstanding' accolade in the County Durham Environment Awards, the 'Best New Business' and the 'Environmental Achievement' award in the Teesdale Business Awards and a Great Taste Award and a Soil Association Award. We were also finalists in the BBC Food & Farming Awards reaching top 3 in the country for the best local food retailer.

Our new venture comprises of an organic café-restaurant with a farm retail shop supporting local producers and a horticultural centre. In the shop we have an in house butchers, delicatessen, bakery, general store and craft section. Cross Lanes is run and built entirely on eco principles with organic, local and green thinking at the heart of everything we do. We are overseen by our carved stone 'Green Man' who heralds the spirit of Cross Lanes, looking down on us from the East Elevation wall.

Geese on the slide

The Cross Lane's geese certainly keep us and our customers amused with their antics, we've got 3 geese, Mum, Dad and Son who patrol the site and aren't far from the front door waiting for one of the team (normally Dane) to feed them!
