Cross Lanes Organic Kitchen
Our organic kitchen serves a wide range of great tasting homemade food throughout the day, the menu boasts dishes made from organic, wild, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. Whether you are looking for a full english breakfast, a sandwich, a light rustic lunch, wood fired pizza or an afternoon tea, Cross Lanes is the place to eat. The café-restaurant is situated beneath our glazed atrium providing a real spacious relaxing environment overlooking the Teesdale countryside. A feature of our café is the traditional wood fired oven which would have been seen in many Teesdale homes back in the 18th Century and before, although maybe not in the same grand proportions. We use the oven to make delicious stone baked pizzas, flatbreads, roast meat & vegetables and also smoke fish in it.
We have a specials board which changes daily ensuring a varied choice for our regular customers and a menu which is based soley on availability of local, seasonal ingredients. We cater for all dietary requirements and offer a selection of gluten free and vegetarian dishes.

We have a team of girls pulling all the stops out in our organic kitchen, they bounce ideas of each other all the time to find ways of utilising ingredients and creating exciting new dishes to serve. They each have their own interests and talents. Stevie looks after the specials board dishes and has an art for making the most wonderful nutritious soups, curries & other savoury dishes, Emily has recently joined the team working behind the pass cooking all the food for service, Kaylee is our patisserie chef ensuring a fantastic range of cakes and sweet delights are on offer, Ali can turn her hand to almost anything and makes fantastic quiches and tarts and Kelly is a great asset to the kitchen who supports the whole team. Our team of chefs work alongside Nathan our baker and discuss new ideas with him.
We have won Great Taste Awards for apple & almond cake, blueberry & lemon frangipan and have won a Soil Association award for our fruit scones. The girls introduced the Cross Lanes milkshakes, using organic milk from Acorn Dairy who kindly provided us with their milk bottles to serve the shakes in, these are still going down a treat in the restaurant.
We make as much ourselves as possible the Cross Lanes way with our kitchen working hand in hand with our fantastic front of house team. The kitchen works very closely with Sandy our butcher, utilising our own cured bacon and homemade sausages in the breakfast dishes and bringing tasty meat dishes onto the menu such as beef kofta kebabs, venison burgers & venison lasagne.
