Eating at Cross Lanes

Organic Café Restaurant
Our organic kitchen serves a wide range of great tasting homemade food throughout the day, the menu boasts dishes made from organic, wild, fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. Whether you are looking for a full english breakfast, a sandwich, a light rustic lunch, wood fired pizza or an afternoon tea, Cross Lanes is the place to eat. The café-restaurant is situated beneath our glazed atrium providing a real spacious relaxing environment overlooking the Teesdale countryside.
A feature of our café is the traditional wood fired oven which would have been seen in many Teesdale homes back in the 18th Century and before, although maybe not in the same grand proportions. We use the oven to make delicious stone baked pizzas, flatbreads, roast meat & vegetables and also smoke fish in it.
We have a specials board which changes daily ensuring a varied choice for our regular customers and a menu which is based soley on availability of local, seasonal ingredients. We cater for all dietary requirements and offer a selection of gluten free and vegetarian dishes. Please click here for a copy of our table menu which runs alongside our daily specials board.

We make as much ourselves as possible, the Cross Lanes way! The kitchen team work closely together, each having their own interests, talents and continously bouncing ideas off each other to create exciting dishes from the ingredients available. Kaylee heads up the kitchen and is a very talented patisserie chef ensuring a fantastic range of cakes and sweet delights are on offer. Steve & Pauline established the bread and pizza side training the team up and introduced flatbreads made in the wood fired oven which now compliment many of the daily meals, they also make homemade fresh egg pasta, Pauline is now a master at making all sorts of tasty preserves and pies whilst Steve enjoys working with spices, herbs and bringing cultural dishes to the menu. Stevie has an art for making the most wonderful nutritious soups, award winning apple & almond cake, tasty frangipan and is keen to develop her range of homemade luxury ice creams. Stevie & Kaylee introduced the Cross Lanes milkshakes, using organic milk from Acorn Dairy who have kindly provided us with their milk bottles to serve the shakes in. Kaylee, Stevie & Steve take it in turns to cook during service in the week, with Peter (owner) and Steve looking after the wood fired oven making pizzas.
The kitchen work very closely with Sandy and Simon our butchers, utilising our own cured bacon and homemade sausages in the breakfast dishes and bringing tasty meat dishes onto the menu and trying new products like goat kebabs and venison burgers.
